Natural oil

Floors treated with natural oil are significantly different from UV-sealed surfaces. Oiled surfaces are open-pore in nature, the wooden fibres are soaked in oil thus protecting them from dirt, dust, moisture, etc.. Sealed surfaces have a film-like character, i.e. a distinct layer of coating is formed over the protected floor. This has very different properties compared with oiled surfaces.

The advantage of an oiled floor is that it is very easy to repair. So-called “spot repairs” are easy to carry out and can even be performed by the end user. Surfaces with a natural oil finish are able to absorb and give off moisture in the air and thus have a regulatory function.

They have the disadvantage that, compared with UV sealants, they have next to no abrasive resistance and have low chemical resistance to household reagents. Surfaces with a natural oil finish thus require a lot of care and must be regularly touched up with care product and/or oils.

Klumpp Coatings offers parquet manufacturers high-quality natural oils for industrial processing which can be touched up with any common care product or oil currently available on the market. As an exceptional case we generally do not recommend the use of wood soaps as they risk turning content-rich woods grey.
